A copper–gold VMS target in the central Lachlan Fold Belt
The fully owned 43km2 Havilah project (EL/7391) lies about 15 km East-South-East of Mudgee NSW. The project is a brownfields exploration opportunity with a clear high-priority drill target ready for testing. It is located approximately 5km from the Bowdens silver deposit – one of the largest globally and the largest undeveloped silver deposit in Australia which recently received development and production approvals. AMTG considers that the project area is prospective for high-grade Volcanic-hosted Massive Sulphide mineralisation (VMS).
Several important VMS deposits occur in the Lachlan Fold Belt including the Cobar district, Woodland and Captains Flat, Lewis Ponds, and Sunny Corner which have a comparable geological and geodynamic setting. Golden Deeps (ASX:GED) is also exploring nearby to the south.
The Havilah project was acquired from ASX listed Thompson Resources Ltd, joint venture partner of Newmont Corporation.
Early exploration
Early exploration defined a >1 km-long multi-element soil anomaly and a high-grade historic intersection of 4 m at 4 g/t gold and 80 g/t silver. Recent work by the project’s technical consortium has identified a strong, steeply dipping conductor (VTH03) approximately 300 m below surface, lying on strike from the Dead Horse Shafts.
A consortium of leading geoscientists approached AMTG unsolicited after reviewing historic and modern datasets. Their confidence in the project’s VMS potential led them to negotiate a technical partnership with AMTG. Southern Geoscience, within this consortium, has contributed structural and geophysical modelling.
Geology and Potential
Havilah displays geochemical, structural and geophysical characteristics consistent with known VMS systems across the Cobar and Sunny Corner regions. The VTH03 conductor represents a strong, coherent, drill-ready target with clear depth continuity.
Next Steps
Two diamond drill holes are planned to test VTH03 as part of Havilah’s first modern drilling program. Additional mapping, sampling and geophysical refinement will follow as the broader corridor is systematically assessed.
